FIRST IN THE FAMILY: ADVICE FOR FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS

While some students have been listening to their parents’ stories about college from “back in the day”, first-generation college students (those who are the first in their immediate families to attend college) face a different challenge. From college visits to college lingo, writing essays to applying for financial aid, the steps seem complicated even for those familiar with the process.
