High School Seniors Encouraged to Apply for Federal Financial Aid

Concord, N.H. — Beginning October 1, many high school seniors across New Hampshire will turn their attention to an important step in the college application process; applying for financial aid for college. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required by all colleges and universities across the nation to determine a student’s eligibility for federal financial aid, federal education grants and for some universities, institutional grants and assistance.

The NHHEAF Network Organizations’ Center for College Planning (CCP) offers NH families free assistance with completing the FAFSA in their Concord office. College counselors also provide assistance in understanding postsecondary financing options beyond federal and institutional aid.

“It is important for students and parents to understand the FAFSA form needs to be submitted to meet a college’s deadline in order maximize federal and institutional financial aid,” according to College Outreach Specialist Karen Collins. “We know many families often experience anxiety over submitting this form, but our experienced college counselors are available to answer questions and ensure the form is filed accurately.”

To register for a FAFSA filing appointment, or for assistance with a FAFSA question, please call 888.747.2382, ext. 119.

For other important tips when filing the FAFSA, visit the Financial Aid section of NHHEAF’s website at www.nhheaf.org. For more information about the FAFSA, please visit www.fafsa.gov.
