Which Program is Right for Me?
There are many different programs of study that can help you prepare for a
new career. Perhaps your experience lends itself to a particular major
of study. College campuses recognize that your life and work experience
may translate into college credit toward a degree.
For program planning and selecting a major, contact a counselor from the admissions
office. Make an appointment to discuss your options. Meeting with
a college admissions counselor is your opportunity to ask questions, gain a
better understanding of admission requirements and explore the many academic
programs offered by that school.
Admissions counselors will provide you with:
School viewbook - publication that provides a description of the campus
and its programs.
Admissions requirements- credentials for acceptance to a particular
program.
Transcript evaluation - determines whether prior credits from a different
institution may be applied toward the degree you are currently pursuing.
Application for admission - the official application that indicates
your intent to study at a particular school. The application is generally
reviewed by a panel of admissions counselors who evaluate your portfolio. Some
schools may charge an application fee that range from $10-$50 and may be waived
at some schools.
Be certain to clarify when and where courses are offered - many college programs
offer classes with flexible schedules. For example, students may take
classes in the morning, afternoon, evenings or during weekends. Many
schools are also developing "satellite" campuses in order to reach students
at locations all over the state. The options are virtually limitless.
